The two friends were reunited, in one of the rare happy endings that come out of a period of great suffering. As a human story, this is a compelling one. As a Hollywood story, it obviously will not do because the last half of the movie is essentially Dith Pran's story, told from his point of view.

Deze plek, ook wel Choeung Ek genoemd, was ooit de plek waar de Rode Khmer onder leiding van Pol Pot de gevangene van de Tuol Sleng (S21) gevangenis doodde. Tussen 1975 en 1978 werden hier 17.000 (!) vrouwen, kinderen en baby’s gemarteld en gedood.
