The book itself is not a difficult read, although difficult to put down. The characters are real human people, as they begin to learn the world around them.

Kuang has triumphed over The Poppy War Trilogy—which I loved so much—with this one book. “Language was always the companion of empire, and as such, together they begin, grow, and flourish.
