24 de jun. de 2020 · Morrison recorded “Veeden Fleece” in 1974, six years after “Astral Weeks.”. He had been recently divorced. He was exhausted from touring. With his new lover, he went back to Ireland. In three weeks, he wrote the songs for “Veedon Fleece.”. A month later, he recorded them.
29 de ene. de 2019 · None of its songs made it onto 1990’s multi-platinum introductory compilation The Best Of Van Morrison, nor its 1993 successor volume. Veedon Fleece is similarly snubbed on more recent hits sets, absent entirely from 2007’s Still On Top and represented with a sole appearance (“Fair Play”) on 2015’s The Essential Van Morrison.
Nevertheless, Morrison’s 1974 long-player is superb in its own right. Beloved by great ones like Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley, and characterized as one of their all-time favorites by Sinéad O’Connor and Elvis Costello, Veedon Fleece is introspective and evocative, an underrated classic within Van Morrison’s catalog.
